Chandrasekhar Post-doctoral Award for David Fajman

28.09.2016

David Fajman, Assistant Professor in Gravitational Physics, awarded the Chandrasekhar Award of the International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation for his lecture "The Einstein flow on closed surfaces", held at this year's International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation in New York.

His current research findings presented in the lecture show that certain classes of 3-dimensional space-times can exist only as solutions of the non-vacuum Einstein equations - ie in the presence of matter. Furthermore, a classification of the corresponding homogeneous solutions was presented and the geometric properties of these spacetimes were analyzed. The results provide an important contribution to the understanding of 3-dimensional theory of gravity.
